Michele and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day... CAUTION! - much swearing!

Background: Around July 2008, some Admins (including myself) at work decided to create a networking type group of other Admins - company wide - to share information with, etc etc. There's a couple groups like this in place, however, they cost money to be in or you have to be sponsored by your department ($$) and they're mainly educational and developmental. I wanted to get info from other admins in the company like "Who do I contact if I need to renew my managers passport" kind of thing. So I do a search on our company directory for the word "Administrative" or "Administrator". Throughout the company I get about 2,000 people. I figure I'll just get the distribution list made through our IT department and weed out people later.
Then, the SharePoint program (for those who don't know it can be like a Facebook for a company... without the SuperPokes) comes out and we decide this is the PERFECT way we can "network" virtually with locals and people in other states and continents. We're all excited. This is gonna be great... then the holidays come around and we kinda put it on the back burner.

Today: So here I am, sitting at my computer at work, workin' away... I get this email from this chick Ann -
"Please remove me from your distribution list"
and its sent to the Admin Professionals Network distribution email list. I'm thinking "Crap did I just send out a mass email???" Frantically check my sent items... and then it starts... email after email after email of "What's this list? Remove me too!" etc etc. Emails start PILING into the inbox. Please remove please remove.
ALL of these people are replying to the Admin Professionals Network distribution email list. That means ALL of the people on the distribution list are getting every one of these fucking emails. Gaby (my counterpart) figures out that she somehow Ann knew she was on this list and meant to just ask me to be removed. I call Ann, "Oh I'm sorry I sent an email to the list and then I realized you were the list owner after looking into it." Really? Are you fucking serious? Who does not know (especially a goddamn ADMIN) that if you send an email to a DISTRIBUTION LIST it will go to everyone... YES, ALL 2,000 PEOPLE!!!!
Let the chaos begin.
I'm starting to get nasty emails because everyone is thinking I'M to blame.
Then the calls start coming in - leaving messages like I'm a fucking moron.
30, 40, 50, 60 emails piling up in my inbox. In the midst, I'm able to send out a quick email to the distribution list, YES, ANOTHER FUCKING EMAIL, saying (in a nutshell) "I apologize for the inconvenience, this distribution list was for a SharePoint site for Admin Professionals that we haven't rolled out yet. If you are still interested let me know directly to my email, otherwise I will remove you per your request."
Luckily I got a lot of people just politely asking to be removed. I even got some that are still interested in being on the list.
But many many were these angry "I'm getting flooded with emails!" emails. Many emails saying "Stop replying all!" - Um dumbass, you just did what you told everyone not to do and now they have ANOTHER fucking email thanks to you. Unbelievable.

So basically no good deed goes unpunished

We wanted to create this site to help admins and share information. Now people are asking to be removed before it was even released?!??! jesus

I finally break down and just start laughing. Deliriously. Like it's the funniest damn thing. I just can't believe how stupid people are. And how it's actually not MY fault and I'm dealing with all this.

So the best part... our company has alternate work schedules. You can work 9 hour days and get every other Friday off. Some people choose to have Monday off instead of Friday.
Not to mention... this was a bit after lunch. Where in some parts of the country and world people had gone home for the day.
I am banking on getting a nice welcoming email Inbox tomorrow morning. What a way to start off the day.

Fucking bitch
