The last time I voted... well we all voted, 4 years ago, I lived in Discovery Bay. Since then I have moved 3 times. It got me thinking, did I update my voter registration when I moved? Now why would I do something like that.
So I get on the Contra Costa County website and check my status. Not found.
I try my old Disco Bay address. Not found.
So I get on the Alameda County website to check my status there. Not found.
Try my Disco Bay address (even tho its CoCo County). Not found.
Wrack my brain to remember my old Pleasanton address. Not found.
So I call Alameda County. I explain to them that I was registered in CoCo County but now live in Livermore so I'm in Alameda County. They asked me if I changed my address with voter registration. I said no that would be something smart to do???
They tell me I have to register with Alameda and change my address... BUT IT'S TOO LATE. Deadline was the 20th. I ask if she can just look me up to see if it possibly changed since I changed my address with the DMV. Nope. Not in system.
Great.
So I ask if I can still vote in CoCo County since I should be registered there. She just kept saying, "You HAVE to vote where you live."
Fine. Ok.
So I call CoCo anyway. Explain my situation AGAIN (For those that know me I HATE repeating myself). They tell me that I am in the system but am inactive. Ok, So I ask if I can vote in CoCo since I work in San Ramon. They say no and to call Alameda. I explain what I went through with Alameda and that the deadline is past. They basically say, in so many government words, "Tough Shit".
Now I'm getting upset at myself for not thinking of this earlier.
I call Alameda AGAIN, explain AGAIN my situation (since I get a new person this time on the phone... and just my luck with a heavy Filipino/Asian accent... lovely). She tells me that I can't register. Waste of time and breath.
I'm frantically searching around both websites to find any info. I find a link on Absentee voting. Then I remembered, I registered Absentee in the last election. Great.
So I call the Absentee number I find on the website. I explained my WHOLE situation AGAIN.
She says, "You can vote by Provisional Ballot." What's that? She explains. I'm happy.
Then I get off the phone and think, WTF? Alameda and CoCo couldn't tell me that?
This is why I HATE talking on the phone. I'd rather email and text. Then I don't have to repeat myself. Just forward the email. UGH. Frustrated. But glad I can Vote NO on 8 now.

And lets not forget the even important NO on Sarah the antichrist Palin :-)
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Karyn's not a Republican.
Good story, I'm sure most people can empathize with you. Customer service people as a whole are generally among the most frustrating people you'll ever have to deal with. I have no patience with inept customer service people either, my last bad experience was with AT&T. After literally 35 minutes of dealing with them on the phone (I think I was trying to get them to confirm my IP address or something like that) the woman I was talking to either refused to or was unable to provide the information I wanted. At the end of the call I told her I was done, to hang up the phone and that she essentially ruined my night. The last thing I heard her say was, "have I answered all your questions?" I was so enraged at this that I'm pretty sure I blacked out and started yelling at her in tongues.
Anyways, I'm glad you got the voting thing worked out.
Oh Karyn and I have stories about dealing with AT&T alright... they're our corporate cell phone company... so not just one personal account, 5 accounts just for me! :((((((
Customer service is dead (along with chivalry as I have come to find out). :(
Love the profile pic "Nat"!! LOL
@ Nat: Funny story I was a republican, until Sarah Palin came along... I just officially changed my political party earlier this month. I want a shirt that says "Palin made me go democrat" And uggghhh about AT&T I just had to talk to them this week for quite some time because those bastards charged me $38 in data usage charges when I already pay $30 a month for unlimited data usage... fuckers!!
@Nat: Just curious... how old are you... in real life?
A very immature 35
We are quite intrigued at your vast 90210 knowledge...
Yeah, it's equally impressive/pathetic how well I do know my 90210, ufortunately my expertise does not extend far beyond this area.
So I wasn't aware that Pleasanton housed a "90210 Experts Lab"... is that what you do all day? Review episodes? Apply to random blogs?
:)
I'm going to start a new rating system... sort of like my Chi Ratings. It will be WWNBD - What Would Nat Busichio Do?
Reviewing episodes all day long would be so much better than doing actual work, contrary to what it looks like I actually spend most of the day working. I came across this blog when I was looking for either a restaurant or sports bar on yelp, until then I think I've been on blogger maybe 10x before.
If you do start a new ratings system, I'd recommend using WWJSD (John Sears) instead of what Nat would do, his POV would be much more entertaining.
My vote is WWDMD... What Would Dylan McKay Do?
LOL really? I totally thought you were my friend Wes. Guess I'll have to explain my accusatory message to him. :)
So are you one of my friends on Yelp then??
yeah, I think you owe him an apology. I'm not signed in as one of your friends on yelp, just came across one of the reviews you posted.
Where's my buddy Nat???
