So I see this 4 nomination, Oscar winning, bragged about film last night.
1. I fell asleep
2. It looks like it may have been sort of good, a little Brokeback Mountain-ish (filming wise - somewhat dialog wise)....
But why in gods name do these types of movies win Oscars? I just don't get it.
And a weird ending... like the Sopranos ending.
Yes, I believe a good movie or even an interesting movie will provoke thought about it as well as conversation. But I just really don't deem it Oscar worthy. Hype.
However, one interesting thing I learned (thank you imdb.com) was this:
In the novel (but not in the movie), Sheriff Bell says of the dope-dealers, "Here a while back in San Antonio they shot and killed a federal judge." McCarthy set the story in 1980. In 1979, in San Antonio, Federal Judge John Howland Wood was shot and killed by rifle fire by a Texas free-lance contract killer named Charles Harrelson. Actor Woody Harrelson (Carson Wells in the movie) is his son.
So you're saying Woody Harrelson's dad is a contract killer.... Can anyone say
